Math Emsat 3 Flashcards
When speaking of equation of the line, what are the three ways we can express it?
1) y=mx+b, where m is the slope and b is the y intercept, where the slope intersects with the y-axis
2) ax+by=c
3) y-y1=m(x-x1), where x1 and y1 are the points in which the line is passing through, and m is the slope
How do you find the slope, m?
Rise/run, or y2-y1/x2-x1
How do you find the y-intercept, b?
Substitute y and x with one of the points given
If two lines are parallel, what is the same between them?
Their slopes (m)
What’s the relationship between 2 lines that are perpendicular to one another?
slope of line 1 = -1/slope of line 2
m1 = -1/m2
or vice versa t’is okay
What do you call it when numerous points are on the same line?
Co-linear points
