In fractional notation, what is numerator and denominator?
The top number is called the numerator, and the bottome number is called the denominator.
The denominator shows how many equal parts of the whole have been divide. The numerator shows how many equal parts of the whole are being used.
What is proper fraction?
If the numerator is less than the denominator, the fraction has a value less than one and is called a proper fraction.
What is improper fraction?
If the numerator is greater than or equal to the denominator, the fraction has a value greater than or equal to one and is called an improper fraction.
What is prime number?
A prime number is a number, greater than one, that is only divisible by one and itself.

What is composite number?
A composite number is a number, greater than one, that is not prime.

A recipe calls for 4/5 grams of salt, but the chef needs to triple the amount the recipe calls for. How much salt should the chef use?
4/5 x 3 = 12/5 grams of salt.
At a university, 2/5 of the students take a math course. Of these students, 1/6 take linear algebra. What fraction of the students in the university take linear algebra?
1/6 of 2/5 = 1/6 x 2/5 = 1/15
One out every 15 students take linear algebra.
Determine the area of the shaded portion of the rectangle.
3/9 of ( 4 x 2) = 3/9 x 8 = 8/ 3
What is a mixed fraction?
A mixed fraction is a whole number and a proper fraction joined together.

What is reciprocal?
A number multiplied by its reciprocal has a product of one. For any number not equal to zero, the reciprocal can be found by exchanging the numerator and the denominator.
