The figure above represents a kitchen floor that is to be covered with square tiles that are 6 inches on a side. If the tile cost $1.50 each, what will be the cost of the tiles to cover the floor.

The figure shows a region that can be partitioned into two rectangular regions. The top is 70sq ft and the bottom is 30 sq ft. The total area to be covered is 100 sq. ft. Each tile is 6 in sides so .5 X .5 =.25 sq ft so .25 so 4 X 100 =400 tiles X 1.50 = $600
