Math Flashcards
Positive Numbers.
Positive numbers are those which are greater than zeroPositive Numbers.
Negative Numbers
A negative number is any number that is less than zero
Prime and Composite Numbers.
Prime numbers are numbers that have only 2 factors: 1 and themselves
Factors - Multiples
A factor is one of two or more numbers that divides a given number without a remainder. A multiple of a number is a number that can be divided evenly by another number without a remainder
GCF - LCM.
GCF is the greatest number that is a common factor of two or more numbers. However, LCM is the least among the common multiple of two or more numbers.
Square of a number.
A square number is the result when a number has been multiplied by itself. For example, 25 is a square number because it’s 5 lots of 5, or 5 x 5. This is also written as 5 top2 (“five squared”). 100 is also a square number because it’s 10top2 (10 x 10, or “ten squared”).
Cube of a number.
A cube number is found when we multiply a number by itself and then itself again.
how multiplying/dividing fractions and mixed numbers
For multiplication, multiply both the numerators and denominators. For division, multiply the first fraction by the reciprocal of the second fraction
Simplifying fractions.
Look at the numerator and the denominator and find the highest common factor.
Divide both the numerator and the denominator by the HCF.
Write the fraction in its simplest terms
Multiplying and dividing decimals.
We count the number of digits behind the decimal in both numbers we’re multiplying, and make sure our answer has the same number of digits after the decimal.
Comparing quantities
Comparing quantities is the method of determining the amount of comparing units with respect to another standard or reference unit. Two comparing units must have a common reference point; otherwise, they cannot be compared.
Equivalent ratios.
Equivalent ratios are the ratios that are the same when we compare them. Two or more ratios can be compared with each other to check whether they are equivalent or not. For example, 1:2 and 2:4 are equivalent ratios.
ratio word problems
Ratio problems are word problems that use ratios to relate the different items in the question. The main things to be aware about for ratio problems are: Change the quantities to the same unit if necessary.
