Maternal Normals Flashcards
Normal frequency of contractions
2–5 minutes apart
Duration less than 90 seconds
Intensity less than 100
APGAR Score meaning
Appearance pulses grimace activity reflexes
When is Apgar scoring done
At one and five minutes with a score of 0 for absent 1 for decreased and 2 for strongly positive
What are early deceleration’s
This is a normal sign if the baseline fetal heart rate goes back to normal. it begins prior to the peak of a contraction and Stops at the end of a contraction. it is caused by head compression
Variable decelerations
Noted as V-shaped on the Monitoring strip. Can occur at any time during the monitoring of the fetus caused by cord compression. Change mother’s position, stop Pitocin, apply oxygen, increase IV fluids. Contact healthcare provider
Late decelerations
Occurs after the peak of the contraction and mirrors the contraction in length and intensity. These are caused by uteroplacental insufficiency.
Change mother’s position, stop pitocin, Increased IV fluids. Contact healthcare provider
Normal fetal heart rate
120-160
