Q

Describe the sub sections of Wood. And give examples

Describe wood and give e.g.

A

Hard Woods lose their leafs in the winter and they take a long time to grow.
They are more dense
They are more expensive due to amoun tof time needed to grow.
Oak, Beech, Mahogany

Soft Woods
Less Dense
Never loose there leafs(Evergreen)
Grow much faster
Pine, Cedar

MMB
Made of scrap wood(dust, shavings & chips) that are compressed and stuck together.
Plywood, Mahogany, Fibre board.

Q

Describe the sub sections of Metal.

Describe metal and give e.g.

A

Ferrous metal are made from iron and are magnetic and they can rust if not protected.
Iron, Mild Steel, Carbon steel

Non-Ferrous metals are not made from iron and they are non-magnetic and don’t rust but they can oxidize(Copper) or tarnish(brass)

Q

Describe the sub sections of Plastic.

Describe plastic and give e.g.

A
  • Thermosetting Plastics
Once initially heated up and shaped it stays like that. No extra heating can make it change shape. Has great heat, electrical, chemical resistance.
    Urea Formaldehyde
  • Termoplastics
Can be heated up and shaped as many times as desired.
    Polypropelyne, polyystyrene
