THERMOSETTING PLASTICS
Name 2 properties of Polyester Resin and 2 of its uses.
Any of the following;
Resin + Hardener (glass / carbon fibre)
Chemical resistant
Stiff, hard
Car/boat bodies
What is a thermosetting plastic?
Heated and moulted into shape. Polymer chains are interlinked meaning if they are reheated they do not soften.
THERMOSETTING PLASTICS
Name 2 properties of Phenol Formaldehyde and 2 of its uses.
Any of the following;
Hard, brittle
Dark colour, glossy
Heat resistant
Electrical fittings
Bottle tops
Kettle/iron/saucepan handles
What is a thermoplastic?
They soften when heated and can be shaped when hot. Will harden when cool, but can be reshaped if reheated.
