What is material selection
When selecting materials a designer has to take into consideration how the product will be used and where it will be used. They must be aware of the stress that the product will be under when it is in use to find the right materials for the jobs
When designers select a materials they think about their material properties
Materials at selected base on their:
Aesthetics- how the materials looks and its surface finish, colour, texture
Workability- how easy the materials is to work with cut, shape, form
Practicability- how practical and sensible the materials is locally sourced, cost, suitability, ease of maintenance
Function- how the properties match the purpose. Waterproof, shatterproof
Performance- how the properties match the purple and use, lightweight, buoyant , flexible
