Material properties Flashcards
Ductility
the ability of how much a material can bend
yield strength
the point ( stress level) at which permanent deformation occurs. changes from elastic deformation to plastic deformation. slightly after proportional limit
modulus of elasticity.
the ratio of stress/strain of a material
Ultimate strength.
the stress level at which a material can not take any more load. the point at which failure occurs
proportional limit
the point at which you can not stretch the material any further without it undergoing plastic deformation. slightly before yield strength
thermal expansion
the property of a material to expand when exposed to increases in temperature. change in length= TE coefficient change in temperature x original length
stiffness/rigidity
the ability of a material to resit deformation and return to its original shape after being acted upon by an external force
