Material Properties Flashcards
Strength
STRENGTH: A strong material needs a large amount of force to cause it to deform out of shape
Brittleness
BRITTLENESS: A brittle material breaks easily when impacted
Hardness
HARDNESS: A hard material is difficult to scratch of indent
Transparency
TRANSPARENCY: A transparent material is see through, the opposite of transparent is opaque
Insulation
INSULATION: An electrical insulator does not allow electricity to flow. A thermal insulator does not allow heat to flow through it
Melting point
MELTING POINT:The temperature at which the material turns from a solid to a liquid
Weight
WEIGHT: How heavy the material is. A simple but important property of a material
Elasticity
ELASTICITY:The ability of an object or material to resume its normal shape after being stretched or compressed
