Q
Staphylococcus aureus
Contagious Pathogen
A
- located on skin and teat canal
- may be spread from cow to cow via horn flies
- mostly subclinical, produces variable SCC
- very challenging to treat and manage, impossible to eradicate

Streptococcus agalactiae
Contagious Pathogen
A
- can only live in mammary gland
- often subclinical
- may produce high SCC
3
Q
Mycoplasma bovis
Contagious Pathogen
A
- less common than staph or strept
- spread by aerosol transmission
- causes clinical mastitis that doesn’t respond to treatment
- no effective treatment
4
Q
Escherichia coli
Kiebsiella spp.
Enterobacter aerogenes
Environmental Pathogens
A
- environmental coliforms
- release toxins at death, primary cause of clinical signs
- vaccines reduce severity of symptoms but doesn’t prevent infection
5
Q
Streptococcus uberis
Streptococcus dysgalactiae
Environmental Pathogen
A
- less commonly seen than the coliforms
- respond well to antibiotics, easily controlled
6
Q
Nocardia asteroids
A
- acute onset
- pyrexia, anorexia, rapid wasting, swollen udder
- usually culled

9
Q
Yeast infections
A
