- Communication
- Content
Telegraph
the first means of electronic communication. Sends a series of dots and dashes across a system to share messages.
Converging

Types of convergence
- Technological
- Economical
- Cultural
Technological convergence
Specific types of media all converging into a digital form
eg. print, audio, video
Activities that were once cumbersome are easier to complete now.
Economical convergence
Merging of internet or telecommunication companies with traditional media companies
Traditional media companies have grown fewer but larger in the last 50 years.
Economical convergence occurs when formerly independent companies further the success of another because they fall under the same corporate umbrella
Cultural convergence
The values, beliefs and practices shared by a group of people. Globalization of media content
May refer to a population at large within a larger group sharing ethnic, social or professional tradition or practices.
Practical examples of technological convergence
- Kindles make reading a more comfortable experience with the following occurring all on one app. Several books available, adjustable font size, dictionary options and annotate books.
- CDs are no longer being used as music streaming apps are available
- Film photography vs. Digital/Phone photography
Practical examples of economical convergence
