Hyperventilate head injured patient only if signs/symptoms of her nitration are present. Including posturing, loss of pupillary, vomiting, hypertension, bradycardia and/or irregular respirations.

If hyperventilating a pt use the following rates?

Child 30 bpm
Infant 35 bpm

Non-rebresther mask
Bag-valve mask

What’s the flow rate and concentration of each?

Answer 1

Nasal. 2-6 lpm at 24-44%

Non-rebreather. 12-15 lpm at 80-100%

Bag valve mask. 12-15 lpm at 90-100%
