Mary Queen Of Scots Flashcards
Why did Mary queen of Scot’s have a strong claim to the throne
Henry V11 great granddaughter and Es second cousin. She was descended from Margaret Tudor, Henry V11 sister which meant that she was of royal blood
Why else did she have a strong claim to the English throne
Mary was a devout catholic. England was religiously divided between catholics and Protestant. After Henry the V11 had taken over the church in 1534 and had dissolved the monasteries, the 900 year tradition of Catholicism in England was converted to Protestantism angering many catholics. The catholics wanted to restore the reign of Catholicism in England and this could be achieved
Why else was Mary important
Her claim was strengthened by the fact that there were no concerns about her legitimacy. (See legitamacy E Problems)
