Lady Jane Grey Rebellion
A
- against Lady Jane Grey coming to the thrown as a result of Edward’s ‘Devise’ which changed the succession
- Only London, Kings Lyn and Berwick supported LJG as Queen, with everyone else supporting Mary I
- Mary I was in East Anglia at the time and most people backed her as rightful heir
- law was more important that religion for most
- this could also attest to the idea of the people of England being unwilling recipients of protestantism, now supporting a catholic queen
- Northumberland surrendered to Mary near Cambridge hearing that she had mass support
- Northumberland was executed by LJG and Guildford were spared
LJG was on the throne for 9 days

Wyatt Rebellion - causes
A
Wyatt and his supporters were opposed to Mary’s marriage to Philip II
- rebellion was anti-catholic and anti-Spanish
Wyatt wanted to replace Mary I with Edward Courtenay
- rebellion also served supporters of Wyatt’s own material interests as well
- socioeconomic grievances were another cause for rebellion, caused by decline of the cloth industry in Kent
- unrest in Kent due to conflict amongst local gentry who wanted to increase their power

Wyatt Rebellion - what happened
A
- Wyatt wanted to co-ordinate 4 rebellions at once in March 1554
- only one rebellion successfully began however, in Kent
- Wyatt had 3000 men that he led to London
- Rebellion failed as Wyatt couldn’t persuade Londoners to join his cause

A
- rebellion posed a threat to Mary since he threatened and reached London
- Wyatt, LJG and Guilford were executed by Mary
- Elizabeth was arrested since Mary feared she had a role in the rebellion, but she was released since nothing could be proved
- Guildhall speech was given by Mary in London to disperse the rioters
