Marxist/ Neo-Marxist Flashcards
Criminogenic Capitalism
Capitalism causes crime by nature, crime may be the only way the WC can survive due to poverty.
Chambliss
Laws that protect private property are the cornerstone of the capitalist economy.
Snider
The capitalist state is unwilling to pass on laws that regulate business activity as it could effect profitability
Selective enforcement
Although crime is committed by all groups, W/C or ethnic minority groups are marginalised
Pearce
Capitalism shows a ‘caring face’ and forces the W/C to blame criminals for their problems rather than capitalism
Taylor et Al.
Criticises marxists as being too economically deterministic and seeing criminals as Puppets and not as people with agency trying to make a political move.
Reiman and Leighton
The more high class people commit crime the less likely it is to be seen as an offence. White collar crime is seen as a more forgiven crime
Invisibility of Corperate crime
Limited media coverage, complex crime, under-reported
