Conflict Theory

Capitalism
An economic system based on private ownership of capital

The way that individuals perceive the social world around them and how they react to it.

The lens through which a person views the world
False consciousness
A particular state of mind that prevents a person from recognising the injustice of their current situation
Ideological state apparatus
A term developed by the Marxist theorist louis Althusser to denote institutions such as education.
Hidden curriculum
A side effect schooling which are learned but not taught openly
Conformity
A type of social influence involving a change in beliefs or behaviour in order to fit in with a group
