34
Q
  1. Explain how muscles work as a pair to bend and straighten the arm at the elbow causing movement at the joint. Make sure to discuss the type of joint movement.
A

Flexion of a joint a decreased in the joint angle from the body in anatomical position. When the elbow is bent the forearm is flexed which means that the flexor is contracted or has pulled the bone of the forearm. Most flex ion takes place in a forward direction. The exemption to this is the leg where flex ion of the leg result in the bending of the Knee. Extension of the joint is when the joint is returned to an atomic position or increased at the angle of the joint, which means the extensor is contracted. An example of this is when the triceps Brachi (extensor) contracts to straighten the arm. The biceps Brachii muscle (flexor) in the upper arm contracts to bend the elbow. Muscles work in pairs so that at the same time, the biceps Brachii muscles (flexor) contracts to bend the joint and the triceps Brachii muscle returns to its original length. To sraighten the arm or extend the joint, the triceps Brachii (extensor) contracts while the biceps returns to its original length.
