What is the Christian attitude to sex & marriage
“A man leaves his father and mother & clings to his wife and they become one flesh”-The Bible
- God created man and woman for each other, this relationship is perfectly fulfilled in the sacrament of marriage
- UNITES a couple so they can PRO-CREATE
- Sex & Marriage should always go together therefore sex outside of marriage is morally wrong
Catholic attitudes to divorce and remarriage?
1) Does not allow religious divorce
2) Does allow annulment (thing so that the marriage basically never happened)
3) Does not allow for re-marriage
4) Does allow for separation (if one of the partners or children are in danger it’s allowed)
Protestant views to divorce and remarriage
1) Does allow for Divorce in some circumstances because Jesus allowed them
2) Divorce is wrong but sometimes may be the lesser of two evils
3) Re-marriage is possible
Catholic views to homosexuality
Homosexuals are sinful as they are against the natural law, but must be supported by the church to remain celibate
Evangelical Protestant views to homosexuality
Homosexuality is sinful because it is condemned in the Bible, and that Christians should not or can not be homosexuals
Liberal Protestant views on homosexuality
Homosexual relationships are acceptable because the Bible needs to be re-interpreted; Gay relationships may even be blessed by the Church
What is the Catholic attitude to family life?
1) Family life is Basis for healthy life-children learn about morality & faith
2) Church helps with the upbringing of children-runs schools, youth clubs & sharing the sacrament
3) Helps families by supporting couples, celebrating marriage &a running family friendly parishes
What is contraception? What are the different types?
Any method that tries to prevent fertilisation
ARTIFICIAL CONTRACEPTION- prevents conception during sex
NATURAL CONTRACEPTION-avoid conception by avoiding sex
Catholic attitudes to contraception
- Artificial contraception is wrong
- Natural family planning is acceptable
Non-Catholic attitude to contraception
Mostly acceptable when used by married couple
