- Influence of feminisms –> SHARPE -interviewed girls in 1976, their dreams were ,marriage and family based, when interviewed girls in 1994, their dreams based on education and career
why is there an increase in remarriage
- changes in social attitudes- serial monogamy’s acceptable
- Increase in secularisation
- mass media promotes idea of romantic love- people continue to find love after first marriage ends
why are people marrying at a later age
- changes in social attitudes–> no stigma attached to being single, especially for women
- weddings are expensive–> people save up for long
- Increase in secularisation
- influence of feminism–> WILKINSON- increased opportunities for women in work and education leads them to post posing marriage until careers established
