Reflects importance of God, characteristics of Christian marriage, honouring bodies through marital sex and becoming a unit

The minister announces that the couple are married
Prayers
Prayers are said for God’s blessing and help in the marriage. Eg the gift of kids
Bible readings and sermon
The Christian readings are usually about marriage and love. Readings also demonstrate the importance of God
Signing of the register
Legal requirement that the bride, groom and two witnesses must sign the register. The couple receive a copy of the marriage certificate

Some Christians believe that gay and lesbian couple should be free to commit to each other
Other Christians
Some Christians believe that homosexuality is a sin and that civil partnerships should not be allowed because they equate same-sex relationships with heterosexual marriage

Divorce is always wrong, because the bible seems to teach this, and it was the traditional view of the Christian church

Many modern Christians try to avoid divorce, but do not judge or think badly of people who get divorced. Biblical teachings on forgiveness and the importance of not judging others support their views
Impact of divorce
Divorce can have negative effects on people. Selfish. Loneliness. Give up on their marriage. Affect couples children
When married
Christians believe when they are married they are joined together by God. Therefore they do not believe that God has the power to destroy God’s bond of marriage
Reasons for divorce
Unhappiness, arguments, money troubles, deserted, reality bites, violence, children, growing apart, boredom, falling out of love, cheating, want different things
