When can sewage be discharged?
Sewage treatment plant- Must be class approved. Anywhere, anytime. Check with local regulations Comminuted and disinfected- Approved by flag. +3nm from nearest land, en route, not taking shortest route, +4kts. No visible effluent. CAN BE IN S.A Raw- Not in SA. Otherwise must have holding tank +12nm from nearest land, en route, not visible, discharged at acceptable
When can RAW sewage be discharged?
Not in a special area
+12nm from nearest land, proceeding en route, no visible surface waste, discharged at ISPPC required rate, holding tank on board
At what rate can RAW sewage be discharged?
As stated in the ISPP Cert per IMO regulations
Which certification is required under Annex 4?
International Sewage Pollution Prevention Cert.
Only has initial and renewal every 5 years
when else might vessels need to be surveyed?
If major work has been taken out on the sewage equipment or work that could effect the system
Who issues the ISPP Cert?
Usually class under the authority of flag
