he had faith in a time of fear and desperation
its ok to be afraid and we too should trust in god
god will do good for us
children should trust their fathers
why is the entry into jerusalem relevant for us today
jesus was god manifested in flesh. christ did not own a colt never mind a horse (as kings were seen to ride on them) or any possessions of material. he was humble and showed his humanity/humility.
we are not independent of our own services and we also depend on members of the christian community
was the anointing at bethany wrong in any way?
no. jesus recognised her generosity and her motives and praised her. he understood she would be receiving great humiliation for her criticism. jesus saw her as performing burial preparation rites showing he anticipated his death. he said her actions will always be remembered. kings were anointed as a sign they were the messiah
why does the crucifixion and burial give christians hope
shows gods love and power rules over all evil, shows that there is a living christ which we praise and follow, shows we cam trust jesus as all his predictions came true, death is the opening possibility of new life with god and eternal life - should not be feared. good over evil/hope over despair
did resurrection really happen?
yes - mark was inspired by god; must be true.
gods power overides all laws of nature
disciples would not move body as they were too afraid and romans would not move it as they had no reason to
most 11 died as martyrs, they would not give up their life for a lie.
disciples changed from being afraid to being courageous preachers of the gospel - something special must have happened.
no - it is impossible to rise from the dead - contradicts all laws of nature
disciples could have moved body to honour it or romans could have took it away to prevent it from being honoured
maybe resurrection was false hope for those who lacked faith and felt bad
maybe women went to the wrong tomb
mark was a human capable of making mistakes: as were his resources.1
