Calming of the storm Mark 4:35-41
Jesus said, ‘let us go over to the other side’. Leaving the crowd they took him along to the other side. A furious storm arose and the waves broke over the boat. Jesus was in the stern sleeping on a cushion when the disciples came to him in fear asking him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?” Jesus got up and rebuked the wind and waves saying “Quiet be still!” and the wind and waves obeyed him.
Jesus’ baptism Mark 1:9-11
Jesus had come from Nazareth in Galilee and was being baptized in the River Jordan when all who were there saw the heavens being torn open and the holy spirit descending on Jesus as a dove. Then a great voice came from the Heavens and said “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.”
Jesus’ temptation Mark 1:12-13
At once a spirit sent Jesus out into the desert, an the was in the wilderness for 40 days being tempted by satan. He was also with the wild animals and the angels attended him.
Caesarea Philippi Mark 8:27-33
Jesus asked the disciples on the way to the outer towns of Caesarea Philippi “who do people say I am?” the disciples replied “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, one of the prophets.” Jesus then asked them “Who do you say I am?” to which Peter replied “You are the Messiah.” Jesus then warned the disciples not to tell anyone of his true identity. He began teaching them about how the son of man must suffer many things and that he will die yet rise three days later. Peter took Jesus aside and began to rebuke him. However Jesus rebuked Peter saying “Get behind me, Satan!”
The Transfiguration Mark 9:2-8
Jesus led Peter, James and John and led them up to a high mountain, where they were alone. There Jesus was, Transfigured before them, clothes dazzling white, and then appeared before them Elijah and Moses who were talking with Jesus. Peter who was frightened suggested that they should put up three shelters (one for Jesus, one for Moses and one for Elijah). A great cloud appeared and a voice declared, “This is my son, whom I love, Listen to him!”
Entry into Jerusalem Mark 11:1-11
Jesus sent two of his disciples ahead to the nearest town to retain a colt that should be by the entrance. When they returned the colt that had been tied up within the town they threw their cloaks over it and Jesus sat upon it. People began laying their cloaks on the ground for the colt as well as branches people had cut in the fields. They all shouted “Hosanna” and “blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!”
Arranging the betrayal Mark 14:1-2; 14:10-11
The passover and the festival of Unleavened bread were only two days away, and the chief priests and teachers of the law were scheming to arrest Jesus. However they planned to not do it during the festival as people will riot. Then Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve disciples, went to the chief priests to betray Jesus to them. They were delighted by this and offered to give Judas money.
The anointing at Bethany Mark 14:3-9
While Jesus was sitting at the table with the twelve disciples at the house of Simon the leper, a woman came in with a jar of very expensive perfume. She broke the jar and poured the perfume over Jesus’s head. The people at the table began rebuking the woman saying that it was a waste of money. Jesus rebuked them saying that it was preparation for his burial and that the woman would be taught about and remembered.
The last supper Mark 14:12-21
On the first day of the passover festival, Jesus sent two of his disciples to go and prepare for the passover meal at the large upstairs room. While they were reclining at the table Jesus proclaimed that “One of you will betray me - one who is eating with me.” They were saddened and one by one they said to him “Surely you don’t mean me?” Jesus then stated that it was to be the man who dipped his bread into the bowl with Jesus.
Jesus in Gethsemane Mark 14:32-42
Jesus told his disciples to sit here while he went and prayed. He took Peter, James and John with him and he began to become distressed and troubled. “My soul is overwhelmed to the point of death.” Jesus went off and began praying to God, “Take this cup from me, yet not what I will, but what you will.” Jesus returned and caught Peter sleeping, he did this two more times before proclaiming “the son of man is delivered into the hands of sinners.”
Jesus’ arrest Mark 14:43-52
Just as he was speaking, Judas arrived with a bunch of armed men with swords and clubs, sent from the chief priests. Judas had arranged for the guards to arrest the man whom he greeted with a kiss. He kissed Jesus and the guards seized him. Peter who was standing by drew his sword and cut the ear off of a priest’s servant. Jesus then began to question whether he was ‘leading a rebellion’ However he stated that the scriptures must be fulfilled and all of the disciples fled.
Jesus’ trial before the Sanhedrin Mark 14:53-65
They took Jesus to the High Priests. The whole Sanhedrin was trying to find evidence against Jesus, but they couldn’t find any. Many falsely accused him yet their statements didn’t agree. Jesus remained silent. The High Priest asked “Are you the Christ?” to which Jesus replied “I am and you will see the son of man sitting by the right hand of the mighty one.” The High Priest tore his clothes and condemned Jesus.
Jesus’ trial before Pilate Mark 15:1-20
Pilate asked Jesus “Are you the King of the Jews?”, Jesus replied “Yes, it is as you say.” Pilate was amazed that Jesus didn’t answer any of the accusations made. Pilate gave the crowd the choice between Jesus and Barabbas, who was a murderer. The crowd shouted “We want Barabbas” and even though Pilate believed in Jesus’ innocence he was forced to crucify him. The soldiers mocked Jesus by putting a purple robe on him and placing a crown of thorns on his head.
Jesus’ Crucifixion Mark 15:21-41
A passer-by named Simon carried the cross for Jesus because he was too weak. There was a sign on Jesus’ cross saying “This is the King of the Jews.” The Crowd mocked Jesus, “He can save others but not himself.” Then during the 6th-9th hour of the afternoon the whole land went dark for three hours and Jesus cried out “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” The moment Jesus died the curtain ripped from top to bottom. The Roman Centurion watching said “Surely this man was the son of God.”
The Death of Jesus Mark 15: 34-41
Someone watching ran and gathered a sponge and filled it with wine vinegar, put it on a staff and offered it to Jesus for a drink. However with a loud cry Jesus breathed his last. Once this had happened the curtain in the temple tore from top to bottom and the women watching from a distance become sad.
The Burial of Jesus Mark 15:42-47
It was preparation day and Joseph of Arimathea boldly went to Pilate and asked for Jesus’ body. Pilate was surprised that Jesus was already dead yet agreed to hand over the body to Joseph. Joseph then rolled the body up in linen and placed in a tomb cut out of rock. He then rolled a stone in front of the entrance of the tomb.
