Calming of the storm Mark 4:35-41

A

Jesus said, ‘let us go over to the other side’. Leaving the crowd they took him along to the other side. A furious storm arose and the waves broke over the boat. Jesus was in the stern sleeping on a cushion when the disciples came to him in fear asking him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?” Jesus got up and rebuked the wind and waves saying “Quiet be still!” and the wind and waves obeyed him.

Jesus’ baptism Mark 1:9-11

A

Jesus had come from Nazareth in Galilee and was being baptized in the River Jordan when all who were there saw the heavens being torn open and the holy spirit descending on Jesus as a dove. Then a great voice came from the Heavens and said “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.”

A

At once a spirit sent Jesus out into the desert, an the was in the wilderness for 40 days being tempted by satan. He was also with the wild animals and the angels attended him.

Caesarea Philippi Mark 8:27-33

A

Jesus asked the disciples on the way to the outer towns of Caesarea Philippi “who do people say I am?” the disciples replied “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, one of the prophets.” Jesus then asked them “Who do you say I am?” to which Peter replied “You are the Messiah.” Jesus then warned the disciples not to tell anyone of his true identity. He began teaching them about how the son of man must suffer many things and that he will die yet rise three days later. Peter took Jesus aside and began to rebuke him. However Jesus rebuked Peter saying “Get behind me, Satan!”

The Transfiguration Mark 9:2-8

A

Jesus led Peter, James and John and led them up to a high mountain, where they were alone. There Jesus was, Transfigured before them, clothes dazzling white, and then appeared before them Elijah and Moses who were talking with Jesus. Peter who was frightened suggested that they should put up three shelters (one for Jesus, one for Moses and one for Elijah). A great cloud appeared and a voice declared, “This is my son, whom I love, Listen to him!”

Entry into Jerusalem Mark 11:1-11

A

Jesus sent two of his disciples ahead to the nearest town to retain a colt that should be by the entrance. When they returned the colt that had been tied up within the town they threw their cloaks over it and Jesus sat upon it. People began laying their cloaks on the ground for the colt as well as branches people had cut in the fields. They all shouted “Hosanna” and “blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!”

Arranging the betrayal Mark 14:1-2; 14:10-11

A

The passover and the festival of Unleavened bread were only two days away, and the chief priests and teachers of the law were scheming to arrest Jesus. However they planned to not do it during the festival as people will riot. Then Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve disciples, went to the chief priests to betray Jesus to them. They were delighted by this and offered to give Judas money.

The anointing at Bethany Mark 14:3-9

A

While Jesus was sitting at the table with the twelve disciples at the house of Simon the leper, a woman came in with a jar of very expensive perfume. She broke the jar and poured the perfume over Jesus’s head. The people at the table began rebuking the woman saying that it was a waste of money. Jesus rebuked them saying that it was preparation for his burial and that the woman would be taught about and remembered.

The last supper Mark 14:12-21

A

On the first day of the passover festival, Jesus sent two of his disciples to go and prepare for the passover meal at the large upstairs room. While they were reclining at the table Jesus proclaimed that “One of you will betray me - one who is eating with me.” They were saddened and one by one they said to him “Surely you don’t mean me?” Jesus then stated that it was to be the man who dipped his bread into the bowl with Jesus.

Jesus in Gethsemane Mark 14:32-42

A

Jesus told his disciples to sit here while he went and prayed. He took Peter, James and John with him and he began to become distressed and troubled. “My soul is overwhelmed to the point of death.” Jesus went off and began praying to God, “Take this cup from me, yet not what I will, but what you will.” Jesus returned and caught Peter sleeping, he did this two more times before proclaiming “the son of man is delivered into the hands of sinners.”

Jesus’ arrest Mark 14:43-52

A

Just as he was speaking, Judas arrived with a bunch of armed men with swords and clubs, sent from the chief priests. Judas had arranged for the guards to arrest the man whom he greeted with a kiss. He kissed Jesus and the guards seized him. Peter who was standing by drew his sword and cut the ear off of a priest’s servant. Jesus then began to question whether he was ‘leading a rebellion’ However he stated that the scriptures must be fulfilled and all of the disciples fled.

Jesus’ trial before the Sanhedrin Mark 14:53-65

A

They took Jesus to the High Priests. The whole Sanhedrin was trying to find evidence against Jesus, but they couldn’t find any. Many falsely accused him yet their statements didn’t agree. Jesus remained silent. The High Priest asked “Are you the Christ?” to which Jesus replied “I am and you will see the son of man sitting by the right hand of the mighty one.” The High Priest tore his clothes and condemned Jesus.

Jesus’ trial before Pilate Mark 15:1-20

A

Pilate asked Jesus “Are you the King of the Jews?”, Jesus replied “Yes, it is as you say.” Pilate was amazed that Jesus didn’t answer any of the accusations made. Pilate gave the crowd the choice between Jesus and Barabbas, who was a murderer. The crowd shouted “We want Barabbas” and even though Pilate believed in Jesus’ innocence he was forced to crucify him. The soldiers mocked Jesus by putting a purple robe on him and placing a crown of thorns on his head.

Jesus’ Crucifixion Mark 15:21-41

A

A passer-by named Simon carried the cross for Jesus because he was too weak. There was a sign on Jesus’ cross saying “This is the King of the Jews.” The Crowd mocked Jesus, “He can save others but not himself.” Then during the 6th-9th hour of the afternoon the whole land went dark for three hours and Jesus cried out “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” The moment Jesus died the curtain ripped from top to bottom. The Roman Centurion watching said “Surely this man was the son of God.”

The Death of Jesus Mark 15: 34-41

A

Someone watching ran and gathered a sponge and filled it with wine vinegar, put it on a staff and offered it to Jesus for a drink. However with a loud cry Jesus breathed his last. Once this had happened the curtain in the temple tore from top to bottom and the women watching from a distance become sad.

The Burial of Jesus Mark 15:42-47

A

It was preparation day and Joseph of Arimathea boldly went to Pilate and asked for Jesus’ body. Pilate was surprised that Jesus was already dead yet agreed to hand over the body to Joseph. Joseph then rolled the body up in linen and placed in a tomb cut out of rock. He then rolled a stone in front of the entrance of the tomb.

Jesus’ resurrection Mark 16:1-8

A

When the Sabbath was over Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Salome bought spices so that they may anoint Jesus’ body. On their way to the tomb they question who will roll the stone away. However when they looked they saw that the stone had already been rolled away. When they entered they saw a young man dressed in a white robe. The man announced that Jesus has risen and that he is going ahead of them to Galilee. The women fled the tomb.

A

Jesus first appeared to Mary Magdalene whom he had driven out seven demons, Mary then went ahead and told people who were mourning and weeping that Jesus had risen however they did not believe her.

A

Afterwards Jesus appeared to two of the disciples who were walking in the country. They returned and reported it to the rest, however they did not believe them either.

The Great commission Mark 16:14-18

A

Later Jesus appeared to all eleven of the disciples and rebuked them for not having faith in that he’d risen after he had appeared to the first two disciples. Jesus told them to go into all of the world and teach the Gospel to all of it.

A

After the Lord Jesus had spoken to the disciples, he was taken up into heaven and he sat at the right hand of God. Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere and the Lord worked with them.

The feeding of the five thousand Mark 6:30-44

A

Jesus said to the disciples to go with him to a quiet place so that they could rest. The crowd saw the boat and recognized them and with the people from nearby towns they ran and got there ahead of Jesus. However when Jesus saw them he had compassion, as he saw them as sheep without a shepherd. The disciples told Jesus to send the crowd away so that they could get something to eat as it was late in the day. However Jesus replied “You give them something to eat.” The disciples gathered the 5 loaves and 2 fish that they had and sat the crowd down in groups of hundreds and fifties. Jesus gave thanks to heaven for the food and began diving it up amongst the crowd, the people ate and were satisfied. The disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken bread and fish. The number of people that had eaten was 5000.

The paralysed man Mark 2:1-12

A

Jesus was teaching in an overcrowded house in Capernaum, when four men brought their paralysed friend to Jesus via climbing the roof and lowering him down through it on a mat. Jesus saw their faith and said to the man “Your sins are forgiven”. The religious teachers scorned Jesus and thought to themselves that only God can forgive sins. Jesus said the son of man has authority on Earth, he then told the paralysed man to get up and walk, which he did.

The man with the withered hand Mark 3:1-6

A

Jesus entered the synagogue and there was a man there with a withered hand. Some were watching Jesus closely to see whether he would heal the man on the Sabbath. Jesus told the man to stand up in front of everyone and he asked them “which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill.” He looked at them in anger for their stubborn hearts and told the man to stretch out his hand. When the man did so his hand was fully restored.

Jesus in the temple court Mark 11:15-18

A

On reaching Jerusalem, Jesus entered the courts and began driving out people that were buying and selling there. He overturned tables of money changers and would not allow anyone to carry merchandise through the temple courts. He stated that they had made the temple a den of robbers. The teachers of the law that saw this began looking for a way to kill him, for their feared him.

Paying Roman taxes Mark 12;13-17

A

Some Pharisees and Herodians were sent to Jesus to catch him in his words. They began asking him whether or not they should pay taxes to Caesar, however Jesus knew of their hypocrisy and asked “Why are you trying to trap me?” He then said “Give back to Caesar what is Caesar and to God what is God’s” They were amazed at him

Jesus calls Levi and eats with sinners Mark 2:13-17

A

While beside the lake teaching a crowd Jesus saw Levi son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax collector’s booth and told him to follow. While Jesus was having dinner at Levi’s house with many tax collectors and sinners for they had followed him. Pharisees who saw this questioned the disciples why he eats with them. Jesus heard this and said “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”

The man with Leprosy Mark 1:40-44

A

A man with leprosy came to Jesus on his knees and begged “If you are willing, you can make me clean.” Jesus was indignant. He reached out to the man and said “I am willing, be clean” immediately the leprosy left the man and he was clean. Jesus sent the man away with a strong warning not to tell anyone.

The Greek woman’s daughter Mark 7:24-30

A

Jesus came to a house however wanted his identity to be a secret, however as soon as she heard about him, a women whose daughter was possessed with a demon fell at his feet. She begged Jesus to heal her daughter. Jesus said to her “First let the children eat all they want, for it is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs.” She intelligently replied “Lord, even the dogs under the table eat the children’s crumbs.” Jesus told her “for such a reply, you may go, the demon has left your daughter.” She went home to find her daughter lying in bed with the demon gone.

The woman with a haemorrhage Mark 5:25-34

A

A woman visited Jesus who had been subject to bleeding for 12 years, she had received a lot of care from many doctors however instead of getting better she got worse, she had spent all that she had on the care she received. She came up behind Jesus in a crowd and touched his cloak as she thought it was all she needed to do to be healed. Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt that her body had been healed. Jesus noticed that power had left him and he turned and asked “Who touched my clothes?” The women was scared yet fell at his feet and told him the whole truth. Jesus proclaimed “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering.”

Jairus’ daughter Mark 5:21-24, 35-43

A

Jairus came through the crowd that had gathered at the side of the lake to meet Jesus and when he did he fell at his feet and begged him to heal his daughter that was dying. After the healing of the bleeding woman of the servants from Jairus’ house came and announced “your daughter is dead” and “Why bother the teacher anymore?” Jesus got to the house where there was a great commotion of grieving and crying. Jesus took only Jairus and the mother, Peter, James and John to the girls room where he lay his hand on the girl and said “little girl, I say to you, get up!” immediately the girl got up and began walking around.

The healing of blind Bartimaeus Mark 10:46-52

A

As Jesus and his disciples began leaving the area followed by a large crowd Jesus saw Bartimaeus begging on the side of the road. When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth he began to shout, “Jesus, son of David, have mercy on me!” many rebuked him yet he kept shouting until Jesus asked for people to “call him.” He got to Jesus and was asked by Jesus “What do you want me to do for you?”, the blind man said “Rabbi, I want to see.” Jesus told him that his faith had healed him and his sight was immediately restored.

Calling of the first disciples Mark 1:16-20

A

As Jesus walked down beside the sea of Galilee he saw Peter and his brother Andrew casting out a net for they were fishermen, he called out to them “come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people” They began to follow Jesus. A little further they saw James son of Zebedee and John, his brother, without hesitation Jesus called out to them and they left their father with the hired men and began following Jesus.

The mission of the twelve Mark 6:7-13

A

Calling the twelve to him, he began to send them out two by two and gave them authority over impure spirits. These were jesus’ instructions; “Take nothing for the journey except a staff - no bread, no bag, no money in your belts. Wear sandals but not an extra shirt. Whenever you enter a house, stay there until you leave that town. And if any place will not accept you or listen to you, leave that place and shake the dust off your feet in testimony against them.”

Peter’s promise Mark 14:26-31

A

Jesus predicts that all of the disciples will “fall away”. However Peter promised that “Even if all fall away, I will not.” Jesus replied stating that on that evening Peter will deny knowing Jesus three times. Peter then emphatically promised that “even if I have to die with you, I will never disown you.”

Peter’s denials Mark 14:66-72

A

While Peter was below in the courtyard one of the servant girls of the high priest came by and said “you also were with that Nazarene Jesus” but Peter denied it. The servant girl then began telling the people in the area that “This fellow is one of them” yet again he denied it. After a while the people began saying that surely Peter is one of them yet he denied it again. The rooster crowed a second time and Peter remembered what Jesus had said. He then broke down and wept.

The parable of the sower Mark 4:3-9,14-20

A

A farmer was scattering his seeds, some fell on the path, and the birds came and ate it up. Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly yet when the sun came, the plants were scorched. Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants, so that they did not bear grain. However some seed fell on good soil, it came up and produced a crop. The farmer sows the word. Some people are like the seed on the path, as soon as they hear it, satan comes and takes it away. Others are like the seed on rocky places, the first time they welcome it with joy, however with no root they do not last long. Some are like the seeds in thorns, they welcome the word yet are distracted by the sinful temptations such as wealth. Finally some hear the word, accept it, and produce a crop.

The cost of discipleship Mark 8:34-38

A

Jesus called the disciples to him and said “whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me and the gospel will save their life with me.”

The rich man Mark 10:17-22

A

As Jesus started on his way, a man ran up to him and fell at his feet asking “what must I do to inherit eternal life?” Jesus looked at him and said “one thing you lack, go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” At this the man’s face fell and he went away sad for he had great wealth.

Jesus asked “How hard is it for the rich to enter the kingdom of God!” then he said “it is easier for a camel to fit through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”
