- disabilities weren’t thoroughly understood/accepted
- less important due to lack of contribution

-crooked back due to an accident on the ranch

- severe mental handicap
- sidelined because he can’t comprehend like others
- childlike innocence
- feared due to his strength
Candy:
- doesn’t have a hand (struggles with tasks)
- old age and his disability make him insignificant as itinerant workers highly depended on their physical capabilities

-women were seen as inferior and were therefore demoted in their importance and social status
Curley’s Wife:
-desperate for acknowledgement as she’s the only girl on the ranch and is treated with suspicion because she’s flirty
-no power/dominance
-lack of identity and is presented as a possession

Crooks:
- represents the segregation of Black Americans
- physically ostracized from the white workers
- workers don’t enter his room and vice versa (makes him bitter)

A
- marginalisation led to differences in levels of education
- women weren’t eligible for substantial education
- black people weren’t treated equally and had a lower quality education
