Order: F, R, A, Pt (FRAP)

Length of tubing 110cm
Reservoir bag is used to monitor patients respiration, ventilating and protects patient from excessive pressures.

How is Mapleson A tested for leaks?

A

By occluding the patient end, closing the APL valve and pressuring the system.

Mapleson B & C component orders?

What is the difference between B & C?

A

R, F, A, P

Mapleson B has a corrugated tube. Can be used for emergency resuscitation, high flow of gases is needed to prevent rebreathing, and theatre pollution is Max.

A

They have FGF closest to the patient.

D - R, A, F, P

E doesn’t have an APL valve or reservoir bag.

What is a Bains circuit?

A

A modification of Mapleson D, with coaxial circuit where FGF is supplied to patient through the inner tube and expiratory flows out to APL and RB through outer corrugated tubing.
