Sfumato
Painting technique- the use of strong contrast between light and Dark. Italian for Light and Dark.
Chiaroscuro
Painting technique- characterized by change in color (Darkness and Lightness Limitation)
Cangiante
Painting technique- is similar to sfumato but is more useful for the edges of chiaroscuro, where vibrant colors are involved. It is a softer chiaroscuro.
Unione
Painting technique- common in Baroque Painting. Dramatic Illumination, where darkness become a dominant features of the image.
Tenebrism
Painting technique- Illusionistic Architecture, paintings on walls, ceiling usually in frescoes in which architectural details are painted to give the illusion of reality which includes the technique of perspective.
Quadratura
Painting technique- creating an illusion of depth on a flat surface.
Perspective
Painting technique- a perspective technique in which the artist can create an illusion of an object receding into a distance.
Foreshortening
Painting technique- balance, relative size of the object. Ex. dog and a person.
Perspective
Artist- Italian sculptor, painter, architect and poet. He was considered the greatest living artist in his lifetime.
