Cardinal directions
North, South East and West
Symbols on a map
Used to represent and distinguish features on a map
Latitude
Refers to how far north or south of the equator you are.
The equator is at zero degrees latitude and divides the earths into northern and southern hemiespheres.
Longitude
Measures distance East or west of the prime meridian
Prime meridian
A line of longitude that divides the Eastern and Western hemispheres
Equator
A line of latitude that divides the Northern and Southern hemispheres.
*Your proximity (how close you are) to the Equator impacts your climate
Relative location
Where somewhere is located in relation to somewhere else.
Five main components in a map
Tile, key, Grid , Compass rose and a scale
Map application
An application that charts physical locations on the globe for identification and navigation
Culture
All the ways of life including arts, beliefs and institutions of a population that are passed down from generation to generation.
Cultural traits
An attribute of a specific culture that has been socially created and transmitted to others by various means of communication. Ex Sports, Government

Difference between relative and absolute location
A relative location is the position of something relative to another landmark and an absolute location describes a fixed position that never changes, regardless of your current location.
Parallel vs Perpendicular
Parallel lines are lines that never intersect, and they form the same angle when they cross another line. Perpendicular lines intersect at a 90-degree angle, forming a square corner.
What do flags show you culture/people they represent/what is important to them
It’s the identity of a country’s people and a representation of its culture.
Exact Location
Exact location on the earth (coordinates).
