map of the brain Flashcards
what are the neurons in the brain
There are three main types of neurons in the brain: motor neurons, sensory neurons and relay neurons
whats the corpus callosum
divides the brain into two hemispheres- each hemisphere contains a cerebral cortex, which is divided into four lobes: frontal lobe, parietal lobe, occipital lobe and temporal lobe
frontal lobe
contains the pre-frontal cortex as well as the primary motor cortex. The frontal lobe facilitates problem solving, conceptual association and memory.
importance of frontal lobe
plays a major role in decision-making as it is also responsible for how we think about our future selves, through hypothetical contemplation
The parietal lobe
facilitates cognitive functions related to spatial processing, sensory processing, and speech. Involving comprehension and perception of our three-dimensional world, and memories of space and distance.
importance of parietal lobe
enables us to move through the world with fluidity and dexterity, and to comprehend and articulate spoken language
