Habitat Provides?
Water, food, air and shelter
What special features do plants and animals have to survive in their habitats
Fish - gills and fins
Birds - wings
Eagles - Claws and sharp beaks
Sharks - special features
Colour - camouflage
Sharp teeth - tearing meat
Gills - Breathe underwater
Streamlined body - faster swimming and gliding
Frogs
Colour - camouflage
Nostrils - breathe and swim
Eyelids = transparent - see while underwater, protect the eye
Tongue = long and sticky to help catch prey
Lions
Colour - camouflage
Sharp teeth- tearing meat, and catching prey
Limbs - strong to help them run and attack
Water Lilly
Large, this leaves - floating, flexible and absorbing nutrients and water.
Roots - anchoring
Cow
4 stomachs - to digest grass
hooves - regenerate every 14 months. Hooves help them moves across the terrain.
Teeth - for chewing grass and tearing it
African Elephant
Skim - protects them
Ears - temperature control
Tusks - defence
Trunks - temperature control, eat, scare off prey.
Eagle
Claws and Beaks - strong and sharp
Wings - Glide, steer, quiet and uses less energy
Eyesight - well developed.
Wild Dog
Teeth - sharp = bite through bone
Long slender legs - run long distances = tires out their prey.
Eyesight - equipt to see in bad light
Aloe Plant
Sharp leaves - protects them from animals
Large fleshy leaves - store water
Waxy layer on leaf - prevent evaporation
Gorilla
Colour - camouflage
Teeth - adapted for the food they eat
Coat - Keep it cool
Opposable thumbs - grabbing food and branches.
Protea
Leaf - short tun leaves = less water loss
Pine Tress
Stick-like leaves - prevent water loss and leaves move apart so snow can fall through = prevents plant freezing and branch breaking.
