Commercial standards : airspeed +- 5
In the pattern
- Complete an Descent Checklist prior to pattern entry
○ Mixtures (adjust with Descent)
○ Throttles (adjust with Descent)
○ Cowl Flaps (Close for full stop or prolonged descent) - 5NM or Downwind: 20” MP/2500 RPM
- Complete Landing Checklist
○ Gas (Fuel Selectors & Aux Pumps) On
○ Undercarriage - Down (Below 140 KIAS)
■ 3 Green - 1 in the mirror
■ No Gear warning horn
■ {Callout: “3 Green, 1 in the Mirror, Verify?”}
○ Mixture - Gradually full rich
○ Propellers - Sync and Full Forward on Final
○ Seat belts - Secure
○ Switches - Lights on - Abeam Touchdown point: Throttles 16” MP, Flaps 10° below 111 KIAS, 100 KIAS

○ 25° Flaps as needed, Gradually slow to 85-90 KIAS
○ Gas (Fuel Selectors & Aux Pumps) On
○ Undercarriage - Down (Below 140 KIAS)

TD point +100ft - 0ft
One engine INOP pattern
- Simulate engine failure on upwind/crosswind
- Engine failure flow — must maintain 88 KIAs in climb and directional control/heading
- Identity and verify — dead leg dead engine
- Simulate feather inop prop and mixture, MEI/DPE will simulate zero thrust
- Turn crosswind/downwind
- Maintain full throttle on operating engine until reaching TPA and 110kias
- At TPA - GUMPS, landing checklist - check gear down
- Abeam landing point — 17”MP & flaps 10; pitch for 100kias with 500FPM decent
- Base - slow to 90kias (do not go below blue line)
- Final - flaps 25, adjusts power for 90kts - ask MEI/DPE hen both throttles are back
Standards for one engine INOP pattern
Altitude +- 100ft
Airspeed +- 5kts ?
Touchdown: 1st 1/3 of runway
Short field takeoff
Short Field Takeoff
1. Use ALL available runway, HOLD Brakes firmly
2. Full power; verify 2700 RPM & Engine gauges Green (Approx. 1-2 seconds)
3. Release Breaks {Callout: “Airspeed Alive”}
4. Rotate at 70 KIAS
5. Positive Rate: Tap brakes, Gear Up {Callout: “Positive Rate, Gear Up”}
6. Climb at Vx (82 KIAS) until 50’ AGL (simulated obstacle)
7. Clear of Obstacle: Pitch for normal climb at 90 KIAS
8. After 500’ AGL: Cruise Climb Throttle 25” MP Prop 2500 RPM, Pitch for 105 KIAS
Short field takeoff standards
Airspeed +- 5
Steep turns
- Perform Pre-Maneuver Checklist and Clearing Turns
- Fuel pumps on, Mixtures Set, Set 20” MP/2500 RPM
- Add 2 ½ swipes of nose up trim (Maintain Altitude)
- Throttle Increase 2” MP
- Roll into 50° Bank (45° for private)
- Maintain altitude and bank angle
- Roll out swiftly 15° prior to heading and smoothly/briskly into opposite direction turn
- Perform opposite direction turn and roll out swiftly but smoothly 15° prior to heading
- Bring power back to 20” MP, maintain altitude, Cruise checklist when appropriate
Thrust Master Tip:
5° Pitch = to Climb
2.5° Pitch = Roughly Level
0° Pitch = to Descend
Steep turn standards
Airspeed: ±10 KIAS | Heading: ±10°| Altitude: ±100 FT | Bank: ±5°
Slow flight
- Perform Pre-Maneuver Checklist and Clearing Turns
- Fuel pumps on, Mixtures Set
- Throttle 15” MP
- Props Full FWD
- Gear Down (below 140 KIAS)
- Pitch nose to maintain alt (check heading)
- Flaps 10° (below 111 KIAS); Check ALT & HDG
- Flaps 25°, Check ALT & HDG
- Flaps 40°, Check ALT & HDG
- Slow to 60 KIAS (Pitch for Airspeed, Power for Altitude!)
- Recovery: Throttle Full, Nose Level, Flaps 25°, Flaps 10°
- Accelerate to Blue Line (88 KIAS),
- Positive Rate - Gear up, Flaps 0° (Pitch up to maintain Blue Line)
- Maintain Blue Line, Perform cruise checklist when appropriate

Approx. 17” - 18”MP + 7.5° Pitch Up

Slow flight standards

Specified Bank: ±5°
Power off stall
- Perform Pre-Maneuver Checklist and Clearing Turns
- Fuel pumps on, Mixtures Set
- Throttle 15” MP
- Props Full FWD
- Gear Down (below 140 KIAS)
- Pitch nose to maintain alt (check heading)
- Flaps 10° (below 111 KIAS); Check ALT & HDG
- Flaps 25°, Check ALT & HDG
- Flaps 40°, Check ALT & HDG
- Initiate landing descent 500 to 700 FPM
- Power Idle, Flare to land (~10° up), hold until first stall indication (cax)
- Recovery: Throttle Full, Nose Level, Flaps 25°, Flaps 10°
- Accelerate to Blue Line (88 KIAS),
- Positive Rate - Gear up, Flaps 0° (Pitch up to maintain Blue Line)
- Maintain Blue Line, Climb to starting altitude, Perform cruise checklist when appropriate

Power off stall standards

Power on stall
- Perform Pre-Maneuver Checklist and Clearing Turns
- Fuel pumps on, Mixtures Set,
- Throttles: 14” MP
- Props Full Forward
- Slow to Blue Line 88kts (maintain heading & altitude)
- Increase Power to 17” MP (maintain heading & altitude)
- Increase pitch to stall (approx. 20-25° pitch up) hold until stall
- Recovery: Decrease back pressure to break stall, nose to horizon, Throttle Full
- Pitch for Blue Line (88 KIAS) and initiate climb
- Perform Climb/Cruise Checklist when appropriate
Power on stall standards
Heading: ±10°
Specified Bank( if any): ±5°
Accelerated stall
- Perform Pre-Maneuver Checklist and Clearing Turns
- Fuel pumps on, Mixtures Set
- Throttle 15” MP
- Props FWD
- Pitch nose up to maintain altitude
- Slow to below Va (115 KIAS or less)
- Power idle, Bank to 45° and add extensive back pressure
- At first indication: Reduce AoA, Level Wings
- After wings level, Add Full Power SMOOTHLY
- Perform Cruise Checklist when appropriate

Accelerated stall standards
Complete no lower than

Emergency descent
- Cowl Flaps CLOSED
- Mixtures FULL (If above 5,000 MSL adjust in descent)

- Props FULL FORWARD SMOOTHLY
- Gear DOWN (below 140 KIAS)
- Pitch to Maintain 120 – 140 KIAS
- Pitch up slowly to level to reduce airspeed; Below 109 KIAS - Gear UP
- Throttles Smoothly FULL
- Cruise Checklist when appropriate
VMC demo
Must be performed above 4,000AGL per the POH
- Perform Pre-Maneuver Checklist and Clearing Turns
- Left cowl flap closed
- Fuel Pumps ON, Mixtures RICH
- Throttles 15” MP
- Props FWD
- Slowly reduce left throttle to idle (simulated windmilling)
- Establish Zero Side Slip (up to 5° bank) and maintain directional control (heading)
- Adjust trim as needed
- Slow to Blue Line (88 KIAS)
- Right Throttle FULL POWER (leave hand on this throttle)
- Increase Pitch to decrease airspeed 1 knot per second (up to ~15° nose up pitch)
- Increase Right Rudder as necessary to maintain heading
- Continue increasing pitch until loss of directional control, stall horn or buffet
- Recovery: Immediately relax back pressure (push nose to ~5° below horizon) and
simultaneously reduce power on operative engine. - Increase throttle on operative engine to accelerate to Blue Line (88kts)
- Maintain Vyse, 88kts momentarily as well as zero side slip and directional control
- Sync throttles together, Cruise Checklist
- Cowl Flaps OPEN (After CHT in green)
VMC demo standards
Recovery Heading: ±20°
Recovery Airspeed: Vyse ±5 KIAS
Precision approach
- Enroute: Approach should be fully briefed/ NAV aids set/checked/ Instruments
checked - Set power to 20”MP/2500RPM when 5 NM from FAF inbound & Open Cowl Flaps
- ID Localizer/Verify Miss Procedure
- At 2 dot deflection on glideslope (Full Scale) – Run GUMPS (Props full when Visual)
i. 3 Green - 1 in the mirror
ii. No Gear warning horn
iii. {Callout: “3 Green, 1 in the Mirror, Verify?”} - At 1 dot deflection on glideslope (Half Scale)
a. Flaps 10 (Flaps 25 for normal 2 engine approach [not during training]) - At Glideslope Intercept
a. Descend with 15” MP (17” MP if OEI) – Maintain 90 KIAS
b. Verify: “Gear Down, Before Landing Checklist Complete”
c. Descent with approximately 15” MP - Flaps—as required on final (no more than 25 for single engine)
- Airspeed 88 (blueline) until landing is assured
- Final GUMPS check (don’t forget props full fwd!)
- Decision Altitude, Announce: “Minimums”
- Stability Call - 200’ AGL {Callout: “Stable”}
- Follow glideslope down to runway
- Reduce power smoothly when landing is assured
Precision approach standards
Airspeed: ±10 KIAS
Heading: ±10°
Altitude: ±100 FT (-0 @ mins)
Course: <¾ scale deflection
Neon precision approach
- En-route: Approach should be fully briefed/ NAV aids set/checked/ Instruments
checked - Reduce power to 20” MP/2500 RPM within approx. 5 nm from initial approach fix/
or while given vectors to approach - HSI Set and Checked
- Before Landing Checklist
- At FAF
a. Throttle - 15” MP
b. Flaps - 25 (2 engines), Flaps 10 or up if OEI
c. Maintain 88 KIAS, Trim
d. GUMPS check, Gear - Down, verify 3 green, no red, check visually
e. Re-Brief approach mins and missed approach
f. 5 T’s
g. Announce: “Gear Down, Before Landing Checklist Complete”
h. Descend approx 700 fpm when established, 12” MP (17” MP if OEI),
maintain 88 KIAS - Announce 100’ from MDA: “100 to go”
- MDA
a. Announce: “Minimum”
b. Level off at MDA using approx 20” MP - Flaps- as required on final (no more than 25 for single engine)
- Airspeed 88 (blueline) until landing is assured
- Final GUMPS check
- Continue stabilize approach to runway
- Stability Call - 200’ AGL {Callout: “Stable”}
- Reduce power smoothly when landing is assured
Non precision approach standards

Heading: ±10°

Drag demo (MEI)
- Perform pre-maneuver checklist and clearing turns
- Fuel pumps on, mixtures set
- Left cowl flap closed
- Throttles 15” MP and props full FWD, pitch for blue line (88 KIAS)
Worst Case Scenario (most drag) - Slowly reduce left throttle to idle (simulated windmilling)
