Manufacturing Part 2 Flashcards
Whats does (MIG) stand for in MIG welding
Metal Inert Gas
Whats (Oxy) mean in Oxy-acetylene
Oxygen
Whats spot welding?
Is a type of Electrical Resistance Welding
What is Shearing used for
Is used to cut straight lines on a sheet metal and bar stock includes aluminium, brass and mild steel
How does MIG welding work?
Uses electricity to generate the heat required
What is oxy-acetylene?
Is a gas welding process where the flame is produced using oxygen and acetylene
State 2 MIG welding Advantages
High quality welds can be produced faster, flux isn’t used so there is no chance of slag
State 3 Mig welding Disadvantages
The equipment is more complex and cost a lot, not portable and isn’t best suited for thin materials
State 2 Oxy-acetylene Advantages
is relatively inexpensive, have an ease of controlling temperatures
State 1 Oxy-acetylene Disadvantages
Lines are more rougher in appearance compared to other kind of welds
State 3 Spot welding Advantages
Is quick and easy, No dangerous open flame and don’t need any special skills
Spot welding Disadvantages
It wont weld thick pieces of metal, Can only weld overlapping pieces of metal and it’s time consuming to seperate 2 pieces of metal joined this way for repair
