Clearing turns
Procedure:
1. Establish the Pre-Maneuvers Power setting (POWER Lever 35-40%)
2. Visually clear the area to the right, front and left. Also look for traffic above and below
your altitude.
3. Turn 90 degrees to the left.
4. Visually scan the area again.
5. Turn 180 degrees to the right.
6. Scan the area one last time.
7. Turn 90 degrees left to desired heading
Slow Flight
Procedure:
1. Pre-Maneuver Checklist
2. Clearing Turns
3. POWER Lever 20%
4. Below 188 KIAS GEAR DOWN
5. Below 133 KIAS FLAPS APP
6. Below 113 KIAS FLAPS LDG
7. Power as required to maintain 75 KIAS
8. Recovery:
a. POWER Lever MAX and Reduce Angle of Attack (AOA)
b. FLAPS APP
c. Above Vyse and positive rate GEAR UP
d. FLAPS UP
9. Re-establish normal flight path
Power-off stall
Procedure:
1. Pre-Maneuver Checklist
2. Clearing Turns
3. POWER Lever 20%
4. Below 188 KIAS GEAR DOWN
5. Below 133 KIAS Flaps APPR
6. Below 113 KIAS Flaps LDG
7. Establish a stabilized descent at 90 KIAS with 20% power
8. Transition smoothly from the approach or landing attitude to a pitch attitude that will
induce a stall.
9. Recovery:
a. POWER Levers MAX, and Reduce Angle of Attack (AOA)
b. FLAPS APP
c. Above Vyse and positive rate GEAR UP
d. FLAPS UP
10. Re-establish normal flight path
Power-on stall
Procedure:
1. Pre-Maneuver Checklist
2. Clearing Turns
3. POWER Lever 20%
4. Flaps set for Takeoff [FLAPS UP]
5. Reduce Airspeed to 90 KIAS
6. Apply POWER Lever 75%
7. Increase pitch (slowly) until fully developed stall (Private) or first indication
(Commercial, MEI)
8. Recovery:
a. POWER Lever MAX, and Reduce Angle of Attack (AOA)
b. Pitch for 92 KIAS
9. Re-establish normal flight path
Steep turns
Procedure:
1. Pre-Maneuver Checklist
2. Clearing Turns
3. Power Lever approximately 40%, clean configuration
4. Airspeed 100 KIAS
5. Roll in to a coordinated 45 (Private, MEI) or 50 (Commercial) Bank
6. Passing 30 bank, POWER Lever 10-15% and increase back pressure (as required) to
maintain coordinated leveled flight and entry airspeed
7. Recovery:
a. Start recovery within 25 of roll out heading
b. Decrease previous addition of power and pitch
8. Immediately perform maneuver in the opposite direction
9. Recover
10. Re-establish normal flight path
Emergency decent
Procedure:
1. Pre-Maneuver Checklist
2. Clearing Turns
3. Check FLAPS UP
4. POWER Lever IDLE
5. Landing Gear DOWN
6. Pitch for Vne (188 KIAS) and bank up to 45
7. Maintain coordinated flight through the maneuver
8. Recovery:
a. Begin to pull to level flight 500-600 ft prior to intended altitude
b. Speed below 152, GEAR UP
9. Re-establish normal flight path
Unusual attitudes
Procedure:
1. Pre-Maneuver Checklist
2. Clearing Turns
3. Flight Instructor will initiate a Nose Low or Nose High Unusual Attitude
4. Recognize the Unusual State of the Aircraft and recover by:
a. Nose Low / Increasing Airspeed
1. Roll Wings Level
2. Power as Required
3. Smoothly pitch nose to the horizon
b. Nose High / Decreasing Airspeed
4. Reduce Angle of Attack (AOA)
5. Roll Wings Level
6. Power as Required
7. Smoothly pitch nose to the horizon
c. Re-establish normal flight path
Accelerated stall
Procedure:
1. Pre-Maneuver Checklist
2. Clearing Turns
3. POWER Lever 40%, clean configuration
4. Roll in to a coordinated 45 Steep Turn
5. Power Lever <= 20%
6. Pitch to maintain altitude
7. Increase Angle of Attack (AOA) until a stall occurs
8. Recovery:
a. Recover at the first indication of a stall
b. Reduce Angle of Attack (AOA)
c. Power MAX
d. Roll wings level
e. Pitch for 92 KIAS
9. Re-establish normal flight path
Normal / Crosswind Takeoff and Climb
Procedure:
1. Takeoff Briefing COMPLETE
2. Before Takeoff Checklist COMPLETE
3. Use maximum available runway
4. Hold brakes, POWER Levers 20%, Verify Gauges Green, Brake Release
5. Advance POWER Levers MAX
6. Verbalize “Airspeed Alive”
7. Rotate 76 KIAS
8. Pitch for 92 KIAS (10 pitch attitude)
9. Airborne with positive rate of climb
a. Brakes apply
b. GEAR UP
10. Passing thru 500ft AGL
a. POWER Levers 92% b. Fuel Pump L/R OFF c. LDG/TAXI lights OFF
Normal / Crosswind Landing
Procedure:
1. Downwind:
8. POWER Lever 40-45%
9. Airspeed 100-110 KIAS
10. GEAR DOWN
2. GUMPS Flow:
Gas/Guages (Fuel selector on, engine instruments green)
12. Undercarriage (Down, verify 3 Green)
13. Mixture / Prop (Controlled by power Levers)
14. Switches / Seatbelts (Fuel pumps ON, Landing and Taxi lights ON)
13. Abeam threshold, Below 133 KIAS:
15. FLAPS APP
4. Pitch for 90-100 KIAS, Power 30-35%
5. Base:
16. 90 KIAS minimum
6. Final:
17. FLAPS LDG
18. Cross threshold at 86 KIAS
7. Stabilized Approach Criteria at 500’ AGL [Airspeed Vapp -5/+10 kts, Proper rate of
descend]
Short-Field Takeoff and Climb
Procedure:
1. Takeoff Briefing COMPLETE
2. FLAPS APP
3. Before Takeoff Checklist COMPLETE
4. Use maximum available runway
5. Hold brakes, POWER Lever MAX, Verify Gauges Green, Brake Release
6. Verbalize “Airspeed Alive”
7. Rotate at 74 KIAS
8. Pitch for 77 KIAS (Vx)
9. Obstacle cleared
a. Pitch for 85 KIAS (Vyse)
b. Positive rate, GEAR UP
c. FLAPS UP
10. Pitch for 92 (10 degrees Pitch attitude)
11. Passing 500ft AGL
a. Fuel Pump OFF L/R b. POWER Lever 92% c. LDG/TAXI lights OFF
Short-Field Landing
Procedure:
1. Downwind:
19. POWER Lever 40-45%
20. Airspeed 110 KIAS
21. GEAR DOWN
2. GUMPS Flow:
22. Gas/Guages (Fuel selector on, engine instruments green)
23. Undercarriage (Down, verify 3 Green)
24. Mixture / Prop (Controlled by power Levers)
25. Switches / Seatbelts (Fuel pumps ON, Landing and Taxi lights ON)
3. Abeam threshold, Below 133 KIAS:
26. FLAPS APP
4. Pitch for 95 KIAS, Power 30-35%
5. Base:
27. 90 KIAS minimum
6. Final:
28. FLAPS LDG
29. Cross threshold at 86 KIAS 30.
7. Stabilized Approach Criteria at 500’ AGL [Airspeed Vapp -5/+5kts, Proper Rate of Descend]
8. Touch down at a proper pitch attitude within 100 feet of the specified point, with no side drift and minimum float.
Go-Around / Rejected Landing
Procedure:
1. Verbalize “Go-Around”
2. POWER Levers MAX
3. FLAPS APP
4. Press “Go Around” Button
5. Pitch for 92 KIAS (10 degrees Pitch attitude)
6. Positive Rate, GEAR UP
7. FLAPS UP
8. Passing 500ft AGL
a. Power Levers 92%
b. Fuel Pumps L/R OFF
c. LDG/TAXI lights OFF
Go-Around / Rejected Landing with One
Inoperative Engine
Procedure:
1. Verbalize “Go-Around”
2. Operable Engine POWER Lever MAX 3. Rudder AGAINST YAW/ROLL
4. Pitch for Vyse 85 KIAS
5. Press “Go Around” button
6. Positive Rate GEAR UP
7. FLAPS UP
8. Passing 500ft AGL
a. Power Lever 92%
b. Fuel Pumps L/R OFF c. LDG/TAXI lights OFF
Engine Failure During Takeoff Before Vmc
Procedure:
1. Takeoff Briefing COMPLETE
2. Before Takeoff Checklist COMPLETE
3. Use maximum available runway
4. Hold brakes, POWER Lever 20%, Verify Gauges Green, Brake Release
5. Advance POWER Levers MAX
6. Verbalize “Airspeed Alive”
7. Simulate Engine failure Below 30 KIAS
8. POWER Levers IDLE
9. Maintain Directional Control
10. Apply sufficient braking to stop on the runway
11. Notify ATC or CTAF
