Take-Off: Describe the PF and PM roles in this manoeuvre

A

Take-Off:

Clearance to line up given:
- PF/PM: Line up flow:
~ Both: Check RWY
~ Both: Check approach path is clear
~ PF: Lines up
~ PM: Check brake fans off
~ PM: Lights on (Strobes, Landing, Nose to T/O)
~ PM: Cabin Crew signal (smoking sign)
~ PM: Set packs as required
- PF: Before T/O check list below the line

Clearance to take-off given:

  • PF: Announce ‘ take-off’
  • PF: Side stick 1/2 deflection or Full deflection (>20kts XW or TW)
  • PF: Hold brakes
  • PF: THR LVR to 1.05 / 50% and allow to stabilise
  • PF: THR LVR to Flx/Mct
  • PF: Look at end of RWY and maintain centre line
  • PF: FMAs (Man FLX _, SRS, RWY)
  • PM: FMA (A/THR blue)
  • PM: THR set
  • PF: 80 to 100kts neutralise side stick input
  • PM: 100kts
  • PF: Check
  • PM: V1
  • PF: Remove hand from THR LVR
  • PM: Rotate
  • PF: Pitch (3 deg/sec) to 15 degrees, then to SRS
  • PM: Positive CLB
  • PF: Gear up
  • PM: Auto frequency change?

THR reduction / acceleration altitude (LVR CLB):

  • PF: Pitch down to follow FDs
  • PF: Once positive speed trend, THR LVR to CLB
  • PF: FMAs (THR CLB, CLB, A/THR)
  • PM: FMAs
  • PM: Packs on (10sec gap between)

F speed:
- PF: Flaps 1

S speed:

  • PF: Flaps 0
  • PM: Disarm spoilers
  • PM: Lights off (Landing, Nose, RWY Turn Off)
  • PF: After T/O, CLB check list

Landing: Describe the PF and PM roles in this manoeuvre

A
1000' stable, visual, PF takes control
- PF: Allow AC to 'settle' and disconnect AP
- PF: Begin by looking mostly inside
- PF: Scan PFD
~ FD's
~ VS (1/2 GS)
~ Speed
~ ILS indicators

About 500’ Rad
- PF: Begin to look more outside to touch down zone

100’ Rad
- PF: Look to the end of the RWY

50’ Rad
- PF: Start to anticipate the flare

30' Rad
- PF: Initiate the flare
~ See a visible pitch up movement
~ See a visible reduction of ground rush
- PF: Close THR LVRs
- PF: Squeeze rudder to straighten

Touchdown

  • PF: Release back pressure to land nose wheel
  • PF: Select THR LVR to REV Idle / Full REV
  • PF: Maintain centre line
  • PM: ‘Spoilers’ / ‘No Spoilers’
  • PM: ‘REV Green’ / ‘No REV’
  • PM: ‘70kts’
  • PF: THR LVR to REV Idle
Taxi Speed (30kts)
- PF: THR LVR to Idle

A

Go-Around called

  • PF: ‘Go-Around flap’
  • PF: Set TOGA THR
  • PF: Pitch up towards 15 degrees, then follow SRS
  • PM: Set 1 stage of flap and announce
  • PF: FMA’s (MAN TOGA, SRS, GA TRK)
  • PM: Positive climb
  • PF: Gear up
  • PM: FMA’s (ATHR blue)
  • PF: Engage AP

FNC (if time allows)
~ PF: Ensure NAV
~ PM: Call going around

Go-Around altitude (LVR CLB)

  • PF: Level off
  • PF: THR LVR to CLB

F Speed
- PF: Flaps 1

S Speed

  • PF: Flaps 0
  • PM: Disarm spoilers
  • PM: Lights off (LDG, Nose)
  • PF: After T/O CLB check list
  • FNC

A

STOP is called

  • PF: Close THR LVRs
  • PF: Select Full Rev
  • PF: Maintain centre line
  • PM: Silence any alarms
  • PM: Call REV Green / No REV
  • PM: Call Decel
AC has slowed
- PF: Consider a turn
~ HW: Towards the failure
~ TW: Away from the failure
- PF: Stow REV

AC has stopped

  • PF: Set parking brake
  • F/O: Hand over control (if applicable)

EFATO: Describe the PF and PM roles in this manoeuvre

A

V1 and an Engine fails

  • PF: Maintain centre line using rudder
  • PM: Cancel any alarms and read title of ECAM

VR

  • PF: Rotate (slower) to 12.5 degrees then follow SRS
  • PM: Positive CLB
  • PF: Gear up
  • PF: Centre beta target
  • PF: Trim
  • PF: Engage AP
  • PF: FNC (ETP?)
Minimum of 400'
- PF: Ask PM to confirm failure
- PF: ECAM actions
- PF: FNC
~ Inform ATC re ETP
- PM: ECAM actions through to 'Engine Secure'
~ No Damage: Eng Mast off
~ Damage: Agent 1 discharged
~ Fire: Extinguished or Agent 2 discharged
- PF: Stop ECAM

Engine out acceleration altitude
- PF: Push V/S to level off

F speed
- PF: Flaps 1

S speed

  • PF: Flaps 0
  • PM: Disarm spoilers
  • PM: Lights off (landing, nose)

Speed trend arrow reaches green dot

  • PF: Pull for open climb
  • PF: Continue ECAM

LVR MCT
- PF: THR LVR to MCT
~ If already MCT then to CLB and back to MCT

  • PM: ECAM actions complete

Single Engine Go-Around: Describe the PF and PM roles in this manoeuvre

A

One engine inoperative and go-around called

  • PF: ‘Go-Around flap’
  • PF: Set TOGA THR
  • PF: Pitch up towards 12.5 degrees, then follow SRS
  • PF: Apply (near full) rudder to counter yaw
  • PM: Set 1 stage of flap and announce
  • PF: FMA’s (MAN TOGA, SRS, GA TRK)
  • PM: ‘Positive climb’
  • PF: ‘Gear up’
  • PM: FMA’s (ATHR blue)
  • PF: Engage AP

FNC (if time allows)
~ PF: Ensure NAV

Note: the significance of the rudder control on the application of TOGA is often forgotten. As the engines require time to spool up, the rudder needs to be fed in progressively.

TCAS RA (Resolution Advisory)

  • PF: Pitch smoothly so VS is just in the green
  • PM: ‘Speedbird __, TCAS RA’

Clear of conflict

  • PF: Pitch using attitude to level flight
  • PF: FD’s on
  • PF: AP engage
  • PM: ‘Speedbird __, clear of conflict, returning to __’

  • PF: Do not change configuration
  • PM: Call out excessive flight parameters

~ Call 'go-around flaps'
~ Gear up, flap retraction

~ PM: Call 'going around'?

Unreliable Airspeed: Describe the PF and PM roles in this manoeuvre

A

Unreliable airspeed identified and called

  • PF: Disregard all AS data
  • PF: Disconnect AP and A/THR
  • PF: Request FD off
  • PF: If F3 or less do not change
  • PF: If Ff go to F3
  • PF: Ensure speed brake is retracted
  • PF: Ensure gear is up
  • PF: Adopt the ‘safe’ pitch and THR attitude
    ~ < THR reduction altitude: TOGA / 15 degrees
    ~ < FL100: CLB / 10 degrees
    ~ > FL100: CLB / 5 degrees
  • PM: Inform ATC
  • PM: Cross check GPS altitude

MSA (level off altitude)

  • PM: Ref QRH to determine level off pitch and THR
  • PF: Set pitch and THR
  • PM: Checks GPS vs Alt

If both trending the same:

  • PF: Bird on
  • PF: Adjust THR (bird on horizon) until correct pitch

If not:
- PF: Adjust THR until GPS height is constant

  • PM: Compare speeds to identify reliable data
  • PF: Once identified, use reliable data
  • PM: Continue QRH checklist

Loss of cabin pressure

  • PF & PM: Place on oxygen masks
  • PF & PM: Establish communication
  • PF: Alt: turn and pull
  • PF: Hdg: consider turn and pull
  • PF: Spd: pull
  • PF: FMA’s (THR Idel, Op Des, Hdg)
  • PM: Signs on (seat belts)
  • PF: Speed brake full (consider damage)

~ Alt: FL100 or MEA or MORA

~ Spd: 
 - If damage suspected: Set to IAS and keep current
 - If no damage suspected: Set VMO / MMO

  • PF: Check MCDU for correct level off alt and set:
    ~ Norm: Prog page - Rec Max EO Crz
    ~ Terrain: Perf crz page - drift down ceiling
  • PF: Check and set speed:
    ~ Norm: 300kts / 0.78
    ~ Terrain: Green dot
  • FNC
    ~ PM: Call ATC
  • PF: ECAM actions
    ~ Engine relight?

V/S < -500 fpm

  • PF: Pull V/S -500
  • PF: A/THR on
  • PM: ECAM actions complete

Loss of braking: Describe the PF and PM roles in this manoeuvre

A

Loss of braking identified:

  • PF: Rev Max (can be used to complete stop)
  • PF: Release brakes
  • PF: Request Anti-skid off
  • PM: Switch anti-skid off
  • PF: Reapply brakes (max 1000psi)
  • PM: Monitor and report brakes pressure

If still no braking:
- PF: Apply park brake on and off
