WINDSHEAR ESCAPE MANEUVER

W/S AHEAD
“Windshear Ahead, Windshear Ahead” aural warning

A

Before Takeoff:
Delay takeoff or select the most favorable runway.
During the Takeoff run:
Takeoff – Reject
NOTE: Predictive windshear alerts are inhibited above 100 kts until 50 ft.
When Airborne:
THR Levers – TOGA
AP (if engaged) – Keep On
SRS Orders – Follow
(PM) Ensure TOGA thrust.
(PM) Monitor aircraft energy, performance, and trends; call out irregularities.
Landing:
Go-Around – Perform
AP (if engaged) – Keep On
(PM) Ensure TOGA thrust.
(PM) Monitor aircraft energy, performance, and trends; call out irregularities.

NOTE: At any time if an actual windshear is encountered, immediately perform the WINDSHEAR recovery maneuver

Q

REACTIVE OR ACTUAL WINDSHEAR – TABLE

“WINDSHEAR”

(“Windshear, Windshear, Windshear” aural warning) or windshear detected by pilot observation.
Pilot Flying Pilot Monitoring

A

Before V1:
Takeoff – Reject
After V1:
THR Levers – TOGA
Reaching VR – Rotate
SRS Orders – Follow
If necessary, the sidestick may be pulled full back.
If the FD bars are not displayed, move toward an initial pitch attitude of 17.5°. Then, if necessary, increase the pitch attitude to prevent a loss in altitude.
(PM) Announce “Rotate” at VR.
(PM) Ensure TOGA thrust.
Verify all required actions have been completed and call out any omissions.
NOTE: Reactive Windshear alerts not available until 3 seconds after liftoff.
Airborne, Initial Climb, or Landing:
THR Levers – TOGA (set or confirm)
AP (if engaged) – Keep On Autopilot disengages if AOA value exceeds Alpha PROT.
SRS Orders – Follow
Follow SRS rapidly and smoothly but not aggressively.
If necessary, the sidestick may be pulled full back.
If the FD bars are not displayed, move toward an initial pitch attitude of 17.5°. Then, if
necessary, increase the pitch attitude to prevent a loss in altitude.
Ensure TOGA thrust.
Call out PFD Radio Altitude (RA) and “Climbing,”
“Level,” or “Descending” from the RA trend and V/S.
Call out pertinent FMA changes: “Alpha Floor,”
“TOGA Lock,” or “Open Climb.”
Do not change configuration (slats/flaps, gear) until out of windshear.
Closely monitor flight path and speed.
Recover smoothly to normal climb out of windshear.
When clear of the shear, report the encounter to ATC.
