Maneuvers Flashcards
Side Slip Definition
Slip your plane sideways
- When you are off center and want to slip towards the center
- When you are landing in a cross wind, slip into the wind
Side Slip technique
Use your AILERON first to slip in the direction you want and use JUST enough opposite rudder to keep the nose straight. Very different from forward slip
Forward Slip Definition
Lose most of amount of altitude without gaining air speed by exposing a lot of the fuselage. Also used for descents when you can’t see through the front because of a fire or something
Forward Slip Technique
Use your rudder full on and use just enough opposite aileron to keep the plane tracking the way you want
5 Steps of Landing
- Base Leg
- Final Approach - Speed and Descent constant and stable. Watch for the vanishing point
- Roundout - Start looking to the end of the runway
- Flare or Touchdown - Let the nose sink on its own
- After Landing Roll
Approach Stall
LCGUMPS (Lights, Carb Heat, Gas Fuel Pump, Undercarriage, Mixture Rich, Props, Seat Belts)
1500 RPM, One notch of flaps, and the Landing configuration - 65KTS at Idle
Try not to lose altitude with elevator pressure until you are all the way back and hear the stall horn and aircraft flops and pitches down
Increase to full power and pitch the nose down and slowy level off and into a climb and reduce flaps
