Maneuvers Flashcards
Descent airspeed is:
Initiate the descent by:
75 kts
Decrease collective to 14”
Slight after cyclic to maintain pitch with right pedal
What may be required in a turn?
What do you want to avoid?
What speed should you maintain?
Collective
Don’t use pedals in a turn
75 kts
Acceleration from 75 kts to 85 kts:
Add 2” collective over cruise, left pedal
Adjust as necessary when at 85 kts
Deceleration from 85 kts to 60 kts
Decrease collective 3” below cruise power
Apply aft cyclic to stabilize at 60 kts
Accelerate back up to 75 by applying collective, forward cyclic
Skid landing
-approach angle:
-touchdown speed:
5 degrees
24 kts, just above ETL
Conditions for vortex ring state
-power applied
-greater than 300 fpm vertical descent rate
-zero airspeed
How do you enter into vortex ring state
-power setting
14 inches power
Pull back collective so hover in place
(Don’t lose altitude- 0 vsi)
Keep nose pointed in same direction
How recover from vortex ring state
Lower 1 inch collective
Pitch forward
Once speed moves (even a little):
Apply 5 min max power quickly
Pitch for 60 kts, recover altitude
What do if engine fails
Down-Right-Aft
- Push down collective quickly
- Right pedal
- Aft cyclic - nose will want to drop with big collective change

Turbulence
Forced landing
Entry
Exit
Landing - what are conditions of landing area
What are three reasons for low RPM condition
-death grip throttle
-governor failure
-over pitching helicopter
How do you recover from low RPM condition?
Lower-Roll-Aft
Gently:
-lower collective 1”
-roll throttle on
-apply aft cyclic
Autorotation recovery steps at 40 ft AGL
Flair
Forward
Raise
Roll
RPM minimum speed calculation
80 % plus 1% per 1,000 ft DA
Wake turbulence sink rate, horizontal movement rate
300 FPM, 3 to 5 kts
