mandibular incisors (both) Flashcards
Which is bigger, the central or lateral mandibular incisor?
The laterals are bigger. It’s the opposite in maxillary incisors though.
Where are the contact ridges for each of the mandibular incisors?
All are near the incisal ridges, and all at about the same level
Describe the orientation of the crown, from a mesial aspect.
Labial surfaces are inclined lingually, or on the lingual side of a bisecting line
General mesiodistal dimensions of the mandibular incisors?
They are the smallest, mesiodistally, of any teeth
Describe the root of the mandibular central
Narrow mesio-distally, wide labio-lingually,
almost like a tall “shark-fin” look, with a developmental depression in the middle of the root
Slight bumps often present on the incisal edge of all permanent incisors are called:
mammelons
For the mandibular central, is the curvature of the cervical line (CEJ) greater on the mesial or distal?
mesial is greater, by ~ 1mm
from an incisal view, are your mandicular centrals symmetrical? are your laterals?
incisally, centrals ARE bilaterally symmetrical, laterals are not.
describe the pulpal sections of the mandibular centrals
large pulp chamber, tapering to apex, narrow pulp canals & often ribbon-like. Sometimes splits into 2 canals.
generally lateral mandibular incisors resemble the centrals EXCEPT they:
- are slightly larger than centrals (opposite in maxillary incisors)
- angled on the distal towards the posterior (turning with your arch), hence not symmetrical like centrals
- Root is longer than the centrals
