What was China’s scheme
One child policy (anti-natalist)
What were the advantages?
Effective at cutting a population that was growing exponentially.
Ensured China has not progressed into an unsustainable future in terms of its natural resources of food, water and energy.
More affordable living for families due to reduced family size.
The country was lifted out of a heavily youthful population.
What were the disadvantages?
The rapidly growing economy will not have enough workers to keep it going.
It has created an imbalance of men to women (traditionally men were seen as more able to care for their parents).
Danger of falling into an ageing population.

1980s
How did they enforce it?
License to marry
Permission card from employer to have a baby – you cannot register a birth without this card
