what is recruitment?
recruitment is the process of finding people to work for a company
what is internal recruitment
internal recruitment is when a business hires someone for a new job that already works for the business.
this is cheaper, quicker
what is external recruitment
external recruitment is when someone from out with the business is hired
helps with bringing new ideas into the business
what are the stages of recruitment?
- identify the job vacancy
- carry out job analysis
- create a job description
- crest a person specification
- advertise the job
- send out application forms and request CVS
what is selection?
selection is when the business chooses who will be the best candidate to take the job being advertised
what are the stages of selection?
- collect applications and CVS
- creat a short list
- hold interviews
- inform successful candidate
what is a contract of employment?
a legal agreement between the employer and employee that sets out the terms and conditions of employment
terms and conditions
working hours , pay, holidays, duties, place or work and notice period.
different types of contract of employment
full time, part time, job share and zero hour contract
what are the different types of training?
induction training , on the job training and off the job training
what does induction training include?
a tour of the premises, health and safety info, specific training on skills and duties needed for job and company policies
what is on the job training?
happens in the place of work and includes - coaching, role play, job rotation , shadowing and demonstrations
what is off the job training?
happens outside the workplace usually is in a training center and teaches new skills
what are the methods of motivations staff?
financial and non financial
what is finanical motivation?
how much an employee is paid and how their pay is calculated can affect their motivation.
what are the different methods of financial motivation?
time rated motivation, peice rate, commission, performance related pay, bonus , salary and profit sharing
what are the methods of non financial motivation?
flexible working hours, positive work environment, training and staff development, promotion opportunities and worker participation, fringe benefits, job enrichment and job rotation
industrial action
employee relations (how employers work with there employees good relation = motivated workforce bad relation = unhappy) trade unions (businesses that represent workers in a specific line of work) industrial action (put pressure on managers and will impact business success)
types of industrial action
sit in, overtime ban, work to rule, go slow, strike and protest
employment legislation
laws put in place that businesses must adhere to.
types of legislation
the equality act 2010, health and safety work act 1974, national minimum wage act 1998
what is illegal in the equality act 2010
prevent discrimination against age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnerships, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion, sex and sexual orientation
what are the types of discrimination?
direct, indirect, harassment, victimization
what are policies and procedures?
policies and procedures are what businesses put in place to make sure everyone gets equal opportunities helping to remove discrimination in the workplace
