- D = main selling agents - important for sales
- S = good services - gain loyalty

- tend to vary between full time and 0 hours for their production staff as output levels can fluctuate and be seasonal
- Employees can ask the individual to work when required to fill a skills gap, or when demand is temporarily outweighing supply

- Taylor’s scientific management - financial motive to motivate staff - rate per piece + division of labour
- Mayo - greater cohesion and communication in teams
- Maslow - individual levels of motivation - bottom is basic
- Hertzberg - motivation such as achievement and recognition or hygiene such as pay and working conditions
