What are the 3 Main Styles of Leadership and How Do They work?
AUTOCRATIC: Leader Makes all Decisions Workers do jobs as they are told One makes all the decisions DEMOCRATIC: Everybody votes for their leader and have some say in decision making. LAISSEZ FAIRE: Workers are delegated to make decisions decisions are made with or without workers input
What is delayering?
This is The act of reducing the size of the hierarchy by removing one or more levels of authority
Organization changes from Tall to Flat Structure
What is the difference between a tall and a flat organization system?
A tall organization Structure has a long chain of command, small spans of control and autocratic leadership
A flat organization structure has a long chain of command wide span of control and Democratic leadership.
What is Span of Control?
This is the number of subordinates who report directly to a particular head
What are the advantages of a wide span of control?
Less manager costs as each manager is in charge of many subordinates.

What are the choices of leadership style dependant on?

What are Trade Unions?
An organization of workers aimed at protecting the interests of its members, improving their pay, and working conditions.

1.) Objectives are Set by leaders without any input from workers.
2.)Decisions are taken by the leaders without any input from the workers.
3.)Communication is one way.From leader to eorker.
There is no opportunity for feedback.
4.)Workers are closely supervised by leaders
Name 4 Characteristics of Democratic Leadership
- )Objectives set by leader but workers are often consulted.
- ) Workers are encouraged to take part in decision making but leaders still make the final decision.
- ) Communication is two-way. Feedback is encouraged
- )Leader is able to solve problems but otherwise close supervision is not needed.

This is when decisionmaking power is limited to senior management.
Advantages of Centralization
- )Top management retains control over the firms activity e.g finance management.
- )Efficiency in the use of common resources especially expensive equipment and personnel e.g R&D
- )Uniform and consistent decisions are made in all the areas of the firm e.g HR management
What is Decentralization?
This is when the authority to make decisions is delegated to lower levels in the hierarchy.
