Which types of HRT should be offered and to who?
A
- Oestrogen and progesterone to women with a uterus as unopposed oestrogen causes endometrial proliferation so need prog to counteract this
- Oestrogen alone to women without a uterus

- Relief of vasomotor symptoms
- msk symptoms, low mood and sexual difficulties - Osteoporosis prevention

What are 5 risks of starting HRT?
A
Unscheduled vaginal bleeding is common during the first 3 months
- VTE
- Ischaemic stroke
- Breast cancer
- Coronary heart disease

What other treatments can be used in menopause treatment?
A
- SSRI / CBT - to help with low mood and helps with hot flushes
- Clonidine - reduces flushes and sweats
- Topical vaginal oestrogen - Vagifem
- eases urogenital atrophy symptoms - Testosterone gel for low sexual desire

How often should HRT be reviewed?
A
Intial review every 3 months for control of menopausal symptoms
