Look in to see redness and bulging drum –> Spontaneous rupture

Antibiotic treatment usually doesn’t help……
How do you treat otitis media?
just analgesia!! as It’s self limiting and generally viral
abx do nothing in first 24hours anyways (maybe amoxicillin could give?)
treatment for tonsillitis or pharyngitis
viral: nothing, can give analgesia
bacterial: 10 days penicillin
Don’t give amoxycillin!!- as bad if have EBV infection as can give rash
strep throat infection symptoms
scarlet fever- pink rash with sand paper feel
pallor around mouth
not right for a week- temperatures just feeling shit
How would you investigate a case of tonsillitis?
1) Examine by looking in their mouth (not v helpful as viral and bacterial infection look same)
2) Throat swab for viral vs bacterial
Croup symptoms
These patients tend to be overall quite well
Coryza
stridor
hoarse voice
“barking” seal-like cough

Oral Dexamethasone
What management should be enacted for any kid with a respiratory infection?
Assess their oxygenation, hydration and nutritional status then attend to these if necessary, Most kids won’t need anything more than this for Respiratory infections

is epiglottis common or rare?
