Explain the McGregor theory X style of management
-Authoritarian style of management
Belief that workers:
-Dislike their work, little motivation
-Avoid responsibility and need constant direction
-Need to be micromanaged
-Need rewards or punishments to complete tasks

-Participative management style
Belief that workers:
-Take pride in their work
-Work on their own initiative
-Responsible for their own work
-Are motivated, need little direction
-Seek responsibility, find meaning in their work
What are the 3 big motivational factors for people?
-Task needs
-Individual needs
-Team needs
What are hygiene factors?
-Basic needs
-Cause dissatisfaction if they’re not met
-Don’t tend to motivate or inspire people
What are Motivators?
-Provide long lasting satisfaction

-Job interest/satisfaction (have variety rather than repetition to keep workers engaged)
Explain the Dr. Ouchi theory Z style of management
-Increased employee loyalty due to interest in their well-being (low employee turnover)
Belief that workers:
-Want happy and intimate working relationships
-Are disciplined and hard-working
-Value: culture, tradition, family and social institutions
-Involved with decisions
-Need to be supported by the company
What are the 3 management styles?
-Task management style (leader initiates, organises and defines work activities)
-Interpersonal style (leader builds morale, relationships, satisfaction and commitment in the organisation)
-Group decision making style (leader encourages participation/democratic approach)
