What is theory X?
- Inherent dislike of work and will avoid if they can (Pessimistic)
- Prefers to be directed, avoid responsibility, relatively little ambition, wants security above all
What is theory Y?
- The expenditure of physical and metal work comes naturally (Optimistic)
- Doesn’t inherently dislike work, enjoys the challenge, work becomes a source of satisfaction
- Liberating and developmentally, Control, achievement, and continuous improvement achieved by giving, enabling and empowering responsibility.
Explain the advantages and disadvantages of continuing to use theory X?

What is Parkinson’s law and gives an industrial example?
- Adage of work will expand to fill the time allotted for its completion depending on the deadline
- Example: the deadline for a new toy has been pushed back so there will be a reduction of work on that toys development as now less of a priority.
What is theory Z?
- Increase employee loyalty by the company focusing on well-being
What is scientific Management
Attempt to make human productive by eliminating responsibility for their own work and focusing on science-based managerial elite
What is socialisation?
Learning the values, norms and behaviours that permit an individual to participate as a member of the organisation
What’s the definition for Management?
Organisation, supervision or direction; the application of a skill or care in the manipulation, use, treatment or control (of a thing or person), or in the conduct of something
What’s the difference between adapters and innovators?
Adapters: Stability and progress, often found in managerial or defined leadership roles
Innovators: change and reactiveness, often found in visionary leadership positions
