A
  1. wheel hard over towards MOB.
  2. When ship’s heading has changed by 60° put wheel hard over opposite way.
  3. When 20° short of reciprocal track midship the wheel and steady up on new course.

A

  1. when the ships heading has changed by 240° from the original course, put wheel hard over the opposite way.
  2. When 20° short of reciprocal track midship the wheel and steady up on new course.

what are the MOB procedures

A
  1. Sound the alarm
  2. Deploy life bouy, flares and other life saving aids used to confirm casualty position
  3. Mark MOB on ecdis
  4. Assign forward and aft and bridge lookouts
  5. switch to hand steering
  6. Manouver stern away from the casualty
  7. If master has not come to the bridge yet Inform Master
  8. Perform manouver to retrieve them

A

*more effective at night time or conditions of restricted visibility
*should bring you directly along side casualty

*takes longer
*wobbly bit of manouver is done facing away from casualty meaning you risk losing sight of them

A

*quicker to execute
*wobble bit of the manouver is done facing the casualty therefore easier to see back down the track and spot them
