Mocking rules they were given, sacrificing them selves.

Personification, earth protects graves.
“Like a wound working a foreign body”
Simile for the Earth revealing the bones and bodies.
“Twenty men buried in one long grave”
Mass grave lacks emotion, not cared for.
“Broken mosaic of bone linked arm in arm”
Metaphor, not complete, fragmented, brothers in arms.
“Skeletons paused mid dance macabre”
Dance of death. Grotesque imagery.
“Boots that outlasted them”
Boots lasted longer than humans.
