What is a Virus?
A piece of unauthorized code that attaches to a host app or a service. It has to be activated by a host.
What is a Macro virus?
Virus that runs on a macro
What is a Boot-Sector virus?
Virus that runs on the boot-sector. It bootstraps with the PC.
What is an Attachment virus?
Virus that is tied to an attachment
What is a File Infector?
Virus that infects some kind of already-executable code (i.e. video games or applications)
What is a Polymorphic virus?
Virus that changes the semantics of itself to evade the definition that anti-virus software may have
What is a Network virus?
Virus that works through network communications
What is a Worm?
Malware that is self-sufficient and self-replicating. Copies itself in the memory of each computer in its path. Uses resources.
What is Fileless Malware?
Malware that runs in the memory, so it is capable of staying off the radar of most anti-malware.
What is a Rootkit?
Malware that enables unauthorized users to gain control of a computer system without being detected. Attempts to gain admin access.
What is a Keylogger?
A byproduct of malware that captures keyboard input. It can be the product of a physical attack.
What is a Backdoor?
Malware that leaves an opening for an escalation attack. Backdoor of an application. An undocumented way of gaining access to a computer system.
What is a Logic Bomb?
Malware that sits dormant until an event triggers it (i.e. time, date, action/inaction)
What is Ransomware?
Malware that is designed to block access to a computer system until a sum of money is paid
What is are Bots?
A collection of exploited devices, constructed by Trojans and RATs (Remote Access Trojans). Create Botnet.
