Malignant Tumors Flashcards
Describe Basal Cell Carcinoma
- most common malginant tumor
- lower lid and slow growing
- pearly borders with central ulceration
Tx: excision and biopsy, followed by radiation
Describe Squamous Cell Carcinoma
- more aggressive, greater potential for metastasis
- no central ulcer
- higher preference for lower lid, typically arises from preexisting AK and h/o sun exposure
- Benign appearance - scaly plaque, nodular and ulcerative
Describe Sebaceous gland carcinoma
- usually meibomian gland
- presents as recurring chalazion
- Tx: biopsy of excised chalazia
Describe Kaposi’s Sarcoma
- vascular tumor associated with AIDS
- pink to brown, rapid growing
- tends to bleed
Tx: radiation
